If you’re looking for a different water experience, hiring a hero boat is a great way to see Dubai’s iconic coastline and learn a new skill at the same time!
The hero boats are based in Dubai Harbour, Marina. You can park in the main car park at Dubai Harbour which is AED 10 per hour – very convenient! Alternatively, a cab can drop you at the main harbour building, we’ll send you a pin drop to make sure you get to the right spot.
When you arrive at Dubai Harbour you’ll be greeted by a member of the hero boat tour and given a safety briefing. Don’t worry if you’ve never driven a boat before, they’ll give you clear instructions on how to operate the hero boat.
The boats are super safe and easy to drive; there’s just a steering wheel and hand-held throttle – that’s it! We also have been assured that the boats are impossible to flip but don’t take that as a challenge!
We recommend the 90-minute signature hero boat tour, which includes all the great sights of Dubai such as JBR & Ain Wheel, Skydive Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis, Atlantis Royal, Burj Al Arab, Logo Island, and West Beach. If you want to beat the heat, the 9.30am tour is ideal, although the sun can still be hot even at this time. We recommend covering yourself in a high-factor sunscreen, even better if it is water resistant because you are likely to get wet!
The guide will lead a convoy of boats driven by yourself and other guests. Top tip: you can take a boat each rather than pairing up. Last time we did a tour we did just this, and it meant we could go fast without worrying about the person on the back flying off. These boats can travel at 50km per hour so prepare to work up some speed!
Our guide was super helpful and more than happy to stop for a few minutes at each of the main locations to give us useful facts and allow us to take photos. He also took our phones and took a few snaps of us which turned out great! A waterproof phone case with a strap is a great idea to keep your tech safe on the tour. Also don’t forget your sunnies! Sea spray in the eyes can be blinding – take it from us!
